Sofyan Amrabat (born August 21, 1996) is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Premier League side Manchester United, on loan from Serie A club Fiorentina, and the Moroccan national team.
Amrabat graduated from Utrecht’s youth system. He made his first-team debut for the club in November 2014 and played a total of 54 games before joining Feyenoord in 2017.
A year later, he joined Belgian club Club Brugge, which loaned him to Italian club Hellas Verona in August 2019.
Verona bought him and promptly traded him to Fiorentina in January 2020. He signed on loan with Manchester United in September 2023.
Amrabat was born in the Netherlands and represented both his home country and Morocco in youth international football.
He made his senior international debut for Morocco in March 2017 and has competed in two FIFA World Cups and two Africa Cup of Nations.

Utrecht
Amrabat joined Utrecht’s youth system in 2007 from HSV De Zuidvogels. He made his first-team debut for Utrecht against Vitesse on November 2, 2014.
Feyenoord
Amrabat joined Feyenoord during the summer of 2017. He signed a four-year contract, and Utrecht got a €4 million transfer fee.
Club Brugge
In August 2018, he signed a four-year contract with Belgian club Club Brugge, for which Feyenoord received €2.5 million. He was loaned out to Italian club Hellas Verona in August 2019.
Hellas Verona
Hellas Verona exercised their €3.5 million option to buy Amrabat from Club Brugge in January 2020.
They quickly transferred him to Fiorentina for a €20 million transfer price, plus a €1.5 million add-on clause.
Amrabat stayed on loan at Hellas Verona until the end of the 2019-20 season, as he was not allowed to play for more than two clubs at the time.
In July 2020, he received the Hellas Verona Player of the Season title.
Fiorentina
Amrabat made his Fiorentina debut in a 4-3 loss to Inter Milan on September 26, 2020. He started and played every minute of Fiorentina’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final.
Manchester United
Amrabat joined Manchester United on loan from Fiorentina on September 1, 2023, on a deadline date until the end of the 2023–24 season.
Manchester United paid Fiorentina a loan fee of £8.5 million, with an option to buy for £21.4 million.
On September 23, he made his Premier League debut after coming off the bench in the 89th minute to replace Jonny Evans in a 1-0 away win over Burnley.
Three days later, Amrabat made his first start for the Red Devils in a 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace in the third round of the EFL Cup, playing 60 minutes before being substituted by debutant Dan Gore.
CAF nominated Amrabat for the 2023 African Footballer of the Year award on November 1, 2023.
Amrabat began in the FA Cup game against Nottingham Forest and was heavily criticised for his first half performance.
Despite not starting a game since December’s encounter against Liverpool F.C., fans like Mark Goldbridge believed that his second-half performance was exceptional.
