Tyrell Malacia (born August 17, 1999) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays left back for Premier League side Manchester United and the Netherlands national team.
Malacia joined Feyenoord’s youth system at the age of nine. He made his professional debut with the club in December 2017 and won the KNVB Cup in 2018.
He was chosen for the UEFA Europa Conference League Team of the Season in 2022, following his second-place finish in the league.
Later that year, he joined Manchester United. Malacia represented the Netherlands at the under-16 and under-21 levels before making his senior debut against Montenegro in September 2021.

Feyenoord
Malacia was born in Rotterdam and joined Feyenoord’s development academy at the age of nine in 2008. He signed his first professional contract with them on December 2, 2015.
He made his professional debut for Feyenoord on December 6, 2017, in a 2-1 UEFA Champions League victory over Napoli, where he played the entire 90 minutes.
Malacia made his Eredivisie debut for Feyenoord in a 1-1 draw with SC Heerenveen on December 13, 2017.
He did not play in Feyenoord’s 3-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in the 2018 KNVB Cup Final. On May 25, 2022, he started in Feyenoord’s 1-0 UEFA Europa Conference League Final loss to Roma in Albania.
He then became one of five Feyenoord players chosen for the competition’s Team of the Season.
Manchester United
Malacia signed a four-year contract with Premier League team Manchester United on July 5, 2022, with the option to extend it for another year. United paid Feyenoord an initial cost of €15 million (£13 million), plus an additional €2 million (£1.7 million) in add-ons, to make Malacia the club’s first signing under manager Erik ten Hag.
Two days later, it was confirmed that he would wear the number 12 shirt previously worn by Chris Smalling. Malacia made his Premier League debut as a substitute on August 7, losing 2-1 at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Malacia made his United debut on August 22, 2022, starting in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
On February 26, 2023, he played in the United squad that won the EFL Cup final 2-0 over Newcastle United, his first title with the club.
International career
Malacia was born in the Netherlands, to an Afro-Curaçaoan father and an Afro-Surinamese mother.
Malacia was a youth international who represented the Netherlands in the under-16, under-17, under-18, under-20, and under-21 levels.
He was called up to Curaçao’s preliminary squad for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
On August 27, 2021, Malacia received his first call-up to the Netherlands national football team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Norway, Montenegro, and Turkey. He debuted on September 4, 2021, against Montenegro.
